Grades 9-12: Thursdays from 1:00 pm -3:00 pm beginning September 28th to December 21, 2023 and resume February 8th through April 25, 2024. Maximum number of students is 15.
Students will choose a particular phenomenon of interest which covers many of the requirements of the Colorado Academic Standards (CAS) and the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), which includes using mathematical concepts.
Fall 2023 will cover Earth Science standards:
History of the universe, solar system and Earth.
Gravity, solar phenomena, electromagnetic radiation, and impact events that influence the planet’s geosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere
The theory of plate tectonics and geological, physical, and geographical features of Earth.
Climate and energy transfer among the atmosphere, hydrosphere, geosphere, and biosphere.
Renewable and nonrenewable resources.
The interaction of Earth's surface with water, air, gravity, and biological activity which cause physical and chemical changes
Natural hazards and their national and global impacts such as volcanoes, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, and thunderstorms.
Spring 2024 will cover Life Science standards:
Cycle of matter and energy in ecosystem
Populations interactions with abiotic factors in an ecosystem
Biomolecules produced by organisms / Cellular metabolism
Photosynthesis and cellular respiration
Passive and active transport of substances across membranes in cells.
Cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems
Heritable genes which encode for the production of proteins
Evolution and the heritable characteristics of populations
