In October, Evergreent Trout Unlimited continues our theme of inviting Evergreen residents as speakers for our chapter meeting. Ron Belak, long-time ETU board member and current newsletter editor, will be our guest. Ron has published over 50 articles and 350 photographs in Colorado Outdoors magazine. His work has also appeared in Fly Fisherman and American Angler.
Ron’s presentation is entitled "Best of 2012 and 2013" and consists of a slide show of his best images from over 8,000 digital photos he took on mostly fishing trips over the past two years. They will be presented in a seasonal arrangement that has been popular with ETU in past years. Filled with light-hearted humor and tall tales, it will be the farthest thing from a fishing lecture that you can imagine.
Ron’s adventures have included trips to the North Platte River and Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, the Kenai Peninsula of Alaska, and numerous areas in the backcountry of Colorado, including the Maroon Bells, Holy Cross Wilderness, Flat Tops and Grand Mesa. In addition to hefty fish, you will see great images of Sandhill Cranes, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, Trumpeter Swans and grizzly bears.
His photography will also help you appreciate the natural beauty that we all have in our Evergreen backyards. Along the way, Ron will spin some tales about outfoxing picky Cheesman Canyon trout with No. 12 soft hackles, cracking the midge hatch on stillwaters and braving snowstorms to be the first to fish a wilderness lake at ice out.
Our October chapter meeting will be at Beau Jo’s Pizzeria in downtown Evergreen on Wednesday, October 16. Join us for dinner and libations at 6:30 PM. Ron’s show starts after a short business meeting at 7 PM.
